The Department of Medical Education was founded in 2000 at Hacettepe University.The Department of Medical Education merged with the Unit of Medical Informatics, and became the Department of Medical Education and Informatics in 2002.
The founding head of the department was Prof. Iskender Sayek, and carried on his position till 2006. The current head of the department is Prof. Melih Elcin.

Department of Medical Education and Informatics works on program development, program evaluation, measurement and assessment, clinical and communication skills training, medical humanities, training of trainers, and educational technologies at the levels of undergraduate and graduate medical education, and continuing professional development.
